International Women's Day Interview with Emma Chen

Emma Chen - Hair and Makeup Artist, Educator & Good Times Enthusiast / @emmachenartistry

What does IWD mean to you?

IWD means a day to celebrate all women, in all their diversities.

Who are 3 women that inspire you and why?

My sister Erin, not only is she a mother of four children, but over the years has been a life coach, sister and sometimes the only person who can get through to me in moments of anxiety. No matter how busy she is, she always has time for me.

My agent, Jasmin. This little powerhouse of an agent is wise beyond her years and im always in awe of how grounded she is and her ability to navigate any situation.

Charlotte Tilbury, I was always in awe of her as a makeup artist before she brought out her incredible range, im obsessed with her packaging, branding, the empire she has built and to know that there is a lot of stigma in this industry about people’s age and to know that she is at the top of her game later in life is super inspiring.

What is your number one piece of advice for women in business?

That only great things can come from supporting one another. My industry can be very lonely at times, and supporting and cheering one another along has only lead to more open doors and more opportunities for me.

Do you have a morning ritual to help you get into the work zone?

I’m very lucky my husband brings me a coffee in bed every morning as I prepare for the day. I also listen to podcasts on the drive to each job to get my head in the right space.

What podcasts are you currently listening to?

‘How to unfuck your brain!’

What is your favourite way to unwind after a work day?

A large Tommy’s margarita with great friends and food.

What are 3 beauty products you can’t live without?

O Cosmetics tinted sunscreen – hands down the best ive ever used. I hate the smell of SPF but this product I use on every single client as it has no potent scent.

A dry texture spray by Jaye Haircare – this can act as a dry shampoo also but gives texture for a more lived in style.

Any sort of lip and cheek tint like Nudestix, they make incredible cream products to give colour to lips, cheeks and eyes.

What is your favourite BBT product?

I’m super lazy so I always pop in for a spray tan from the girls for that instant pick me up and I love that I can wash it off after 2 hours!
